Ndikiye: The Namesake of the Dynasty’s Northern Journey

This account forms part of the documented oral history of the Pfungwe dynasty. For historical background on the lineage and its earlier migrations, see The Lost Dynasty of Pfungwe: The River That Changed a Kingdom.
The domain name of this blog is drawn from Ndikiye, a descendant whose life left a lasting imprint on the history of the lineage. Ndikiye was the son of Thomas and Chokurota, and he belonged to a generation that carried the family story into new territories.
His given name was Mupararano, though he was also known as Lancelot — a name villagers often used when addressing him formally, calling him Lancelot Mupararano. Over time, however, he became widely known by another name: Ndikiye. The name grew so closely associated with him that he later added it to his official identity documents, embracing it as part of his public identity.
He was also known by the nickname Pefeniya, an alias earned during his younger years because of his fondness for beer. Like many figures remembered in oral history, his names reflected different stages of life, personality, and reputation within the community.
Ndikiye is remembered as the man credited with moving the dynasty further north, extending the reach of the family’s settlement and influence. This migration marked an important step in the continuing journey of the lineage first established by earlier ancestors such as Sosono and later shaped by leaders like Nyauyanga.
He passed away in 2002, leaving behind not only descendants but also a legacy strong enough that naming this archive after him stands as a fitting tribute. In honoring Ndikiye, the blog itself becomes part of the family memory he helped shape — a living record of the dynasty’s past, present, and unfolding future.
